music at the moment

Another goal of this new blog is to discuss some music and perhaps in the future, even post some links. At the moment I am busy with the beginning of a new job, school and two internship projects but I hope to make this happen, I promise.

On to the music!- I am currently glancing over my music collection in itunes, especially examining music I added within the last two months. During this time I have managed to get into 5 albums:

Lykke Li- Youth Novels
Lily Allen- It's not me, it's you
CSS- Donkey
Metric- Fantasies
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- It's Blitz

Other albums I need to take a closer peak at:

DeVotchka
Josh Ritter
Elliot Smith
M83
Kate Nash
Death Cab's- The Open Door EP
Animal Collective
Beirut
The Bird and the Bee
Chromeo
Iron and Wine
Jenny Lewis
N.A.S.A.(what I have previewed I have liked)
Ratatat
The Decemberists- Hazards of Love (what I listened to I have found to be pretty disappointing)
Matt and Kim

*Plenty of these albums are old and some of them new, I have just been putting off giving them a thorough listen.

Hopefully I can sit down and give a more detailed review of the albums with specifics about what I liked or disliked about it.

California and art at OHGE Ltd.

It is a slow and cold Thursday afternoon back here in Seattle. My return from my short, but much needed 3 day vacation in L.A. was bittersweet to say the least. Once "Anti-California," I found myself appreciating the resources and opportunities in L.A. I didn't even mind the hot weather, which normally irritates me (I am not a fan of being over-heated and sweaty). In fact, my trip to California was a revelation of sorts, a marking of a turning point in my life. I came to appreciate the warm weather, the bustling people, and the intense media over-saturation. I once wrote off California as the land of fake-orange tans, new-money and labeled it as obnoxious, offensive and gaudy- California was a place I wanted nothing to do with. This trip awoke me to the possibility of relocating to L.A. in pursuit of furthering my Art History education and gallery work.

I brought home with me my new Chloé perfume:

and the new Nylon Mag for the month of April- the anniversary issue. It has Lindsay Lohan on the cover. Nylon is celebrating its 10th birthday! In the issue it recaps some of Nylon's memorable moments as well as some new exciting stuff.

Being back home here, I am excited at the prospect of my jam-packed weekend. After landing, I went home to freshen up and then immediately headed out to OHGE Ltd. to begin the gallery internship. Today was mostly quiet- with only a handful of people wandering through during my 6 hours of over-seeing the gallery. Most of my time was spent researching other local galleries and artists that OGHE Ltd. will exhibit in the future. At the moment we are exhibiting a Tacoma-based artist Nicholas Nyland. His work consists of ceramic sculptures, papier mache objects and watercolors. His work is vibrant and alive with
color. Here are some images:

My week of spring break is coming to a close. Next week marks the beginning of spring quarter. I am excited for the upcoming challenge of taking higher level art history classes and juggling work, the gallery and schoolwork. The next few months should really be educational as far as figuring out this thing called the big picture.

I hope this blog can be a place where I discuss the things I am doing- mostly focusing on exploring the art community, my ideas for art projects and probably some fashion finds. I hope my thoughts weren't too boring.
